First Day of Summer!

We are officially on summer vacation today. Casey is busy prepping for our "raising of the roof" on Monday when we tear of the back of our house to make a bump out and finish our attic with a bathroom, bedroom, and den. It's going to be an adventurous summer and I will basically be mommy daycare except when I have curriculum writing or grad school. Here's what we've been up to lately...

Riding in the bike trailer a few weeks ago. I liked it better the second time when I was more used to the helmet and got to eat some of Mommy's frozen yogurt from Sebastian Joe's halfway in between.


Planting the bean plant I started at daycare and gave Mommy on Mother's Day

Zonked

This is Melia- so tired from not having the best nap at daycare that she fell asleep "talking on the phone" in the car on the way home. She rarely falls asleep in the car- especially when she has a toy or book. Funny!

I forgot to mention in my previous blog about words that Melia can also say "eyes" (ice) "nose" (no-s) and "head" (hea). She also points them out when she says them and can identify her ears, mouth and tummy (or the faces of other people or pictures or stuffed animals). Here's video of her discovering "belly buttons" and playing with Daddy.

Melia "talking"

Melia is saying "words" lately. Her official "first" one happened awhile back- "ball." She's also been signing since she's been 6 months old. In this video she says "draw" and signs music, draw (she made up the sign- I don't know if it's ASL like the signs we teach her). She also cannot ever stop saying "Noah" who's her friend at daycare. It's like a broken record. I also think she said her first sentence when Grandpa Dana was visiting- she attacked his legs and said "I got you!"

More words

Melia added a few more words to her repertoire... she signs "music" almost constantly if there isn't any playing... first thing she does when she wakes up or sees a clock radio... or gets into the car... she can say hat, boot (pboo), buh bye, raw-r (when we talk about what lions say)... and she signs (I don't know if I wrote this earlier...) please for real now (and sometimes we can't tell what she's asking about...), bath (much more obviously), fish (sort of). She is officially walking now but I am struggling getting it on tape. Max I've seen her do is 7 steps or so before she decides to sit down or her legs decide to sit down for her. Toddlerhood means a lot more whining because she wants to communicate and doesn't yet have the language. If only we could understand all the bldt bldt blah ba la da ta na na ma da da sounds... plus Melia wants to explore and examine everything...

First Step

Melia took her first official step at daycare the other day. There hasn't been much action since... except today at the DMV it seemed like she was about to take off... but she didn't...

Talking, almost walking!

Melia is getting so big! She is wanting to talk and I swear says a new word every day! She can say night night, ball, buh bye, ma ma, da da, and tries to say doggie (da) and milk (mi). She also tries to communicate with signs that we've been teaching her. She signs milk, more, eat, doggie, music, all done, please (sort of) and bath (sort of). We've been practicing walking and some days it seems like she's ready to take off and others like her legs are rubber... things seem like they're headed toward 1 nap a day too... Melia is also officially an exclusive sippy cup user as of today!
